YouTube is something that I use quite often when I take breaks from my schedule, and that day, I was watching a stand-up comedy video where a girl was talking. This happened a few years back, when actually females in stand-up comedy was a rare happening, and this girl owned the stage, and this was a national platform that she was in, and it was a reality show kinda one. So, when I first started watching her videos, I was feeling really proud of what she was doing, and I really loved the way she expressed her ideas. She was indeed funny. Now, she said that she was a Tamil girl and that gave me an additional reason on why I should watch more of her videos. Now, this video kinda inspired me to watch more videos of hers, and I bumped into one where she spoke about how she wanted to compare Chennai to another city where this reality show was happening, and she was making fun of Chennai by all ways possible, and people of that city were laughing at their best, and somehow I couldn't laugh - how much ever I tried, and my pride for that video vanished little by little. At this point, I do know that I should have a proper sense of humour, and when I have it, I wouldn't get offended with the content of stand-up comedy. Perhaps, that is the aim of stand-up comedy, to make us laugh by all means possible, but I couldn't get back my laughter.
I am not trying to say that Madras/Chennai is THE BEST, but for people who live here, it made sure to give them a good life. Chennai has its own flaws, just like any other city, and just like how the people of those cities hide it from the world, we also will, because we are proud of our city. We have a place for everything and everything in a place. We aren't as developed as some other cities around us, but trust us, we will get there some day. Yes, we fight for what we want, but come on, who doesn't fight with their brothers - fights strengthen brotherhood they say. We correct our brothers and sisters when they grow wrong, but we make sure we defend them when someone else comes to blame them. That is Chennai for you - We have everything and everything has us. Well, that is what we say - we are proud to live in Chennai.
